A crucial concern has been raised by Prof Sonia Pereira Deuri, Prof and Head, Dept of Psychiatric Social Work, LGBRIMH, Tezpur that relates to the display of photos and videos of vulnerable children, specially abled / handicapped, being taken to Tezpur Medical College and Hospital, after being tested positive for Covid by almost all audio-visual media houses on TV.
In her letter to the Chairperson
State Child Protection Society, Assam she mentioned that the problems of the children must be addressed through proper publicity but by compromising the rights of the children for privacy.
She instructed that the displays amount to totally flouting the privacy and rights of these innocent children who have no voice. Moreover, all the children are orphans with severe levels of physical and intellectual disability and under the care of the Missionaries of Charity, Tezpur.
Thus, she has urged the media to take measures to halt the displaying of these children’s pictures immediately.
