Tezpur University Celebrates Assamese Heritage with Campus-Wide Husari Performances

In a heartwarming initiative to promote the rich cultural heritage of Assam, the Department of Assamese of Tezpur University has embarked on a unique campaign to raise awareness about Bohag Bihu and the significance of traditional cultural practices. The department’s dedicated husari team has been actively performing the traditional Bihu folk song and dance, known as Husari, across the university campus, engaging with students, faculty, and staff.

The awareness drive commenced with a special Husari performance at the residence of the Vice Chancellor of Tezpur University, Professor Shambhu Nath Singh. The team, accompanied by faculty members from the Department of Assamese, apprised the Vice Chancellor of the cultural importance and nuances of Husari.

Husari, a vibrant and age-old Bihu dance form, holds deep roots in Assamese culture and is intrinsically linked to the agricultural traditions of the region. Typically performed during the Bohag Bihu festival, Husari troupes traditionally visit households in villages, offering blessings and spreading festive cheer through their songs and dances in the courtyards.
