NACCI Tezpur demands enhanced Railway Services for Dekargaon

In a recent move to improve railway services and connectivity, the North Assam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (NACCI) has submitted a demand letter to the Divisional Railway Manager in Rangiya, highlighting the pressing needs of Dekargaon Railway Station (DKGN) and its patrons. The letter, which references previous communications dated January 19, 2023, and January 20, 2024, outlines several key issues faced by the members of the NACCI. The concerns range from operational challenges due to the station’s 24-hour schedule, leading to demurrage charges and risks of theft, to the need for resuming and introducing new train services that were halted due to the COVID pandemic.

Among the demands, the NACCI has requested the waiver of demurrage charges during the night hours from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m., resumption of train services from Dekargaon to Dibrugarh, and the introduction of long-distance trains connecting Dekargaon with major cities like Kolkata, Bengaluru, Chennai, and Delhi. These services are deemed crucial for the business community, defense personnel, and other citizens of Tezpur, which houses significant Army and Air Force stations. The letter also calls for the introduction of Intercity Express or Shatabdi trains between New Jalpaiguri (NJP) and Dekargaon, additional stoppages for major express trains at Balipara and Biswanath Charli, and the provision of lift services at Dekargaon station for the elderly and physically challenged individuals.

To further enhance connectivity and efficiency, the NACCI suggests conducting a survey for direct railway lines from Missamari to Dekargaon, introducing DEMU services for the daily train from Dekargaon to Guwahati, and improving the amenities at Dekargaon station. The Chairman of the Railway Committee of NACCI, Rajender Kumar Bhati, has expressed the collective aspirations of the region’s business and civilian communities, emphasizing the potential for increased railway profits and time savings through these enhancements.

The letter has been cc’d to the General Manager of Maligaon, North East Frontier, Guwahati, for information and necessary action. The NACCI remains hopeful that their demands will be met, leading to improved customer services and connectivity that will benefit the entire region.
