Covid Surge : 1367 fresh infections in Assam; Sonitpur records 66 cases
Tezpur, April 19 : As India reels under 2nd Wave of COVID-19 outbreak, Sonitpur is also seeing surge in Covid cases. On Monday, 66 new infections were registered in Sonitpur District taking total active cases count to 217.
The total number of Covid Cases in the Sonitpur district stands at 8528 while 8286 already discharged. A total of 10 patients were discharged on Monday.
Over 20 places in total are declared Containment zone in Sonitpur, with more than 10 in Tezpur alone. Assam Chief Minister, Sarbananda Sonowal chaired a high level meeting on Monday at Janata Bhawan in presence of Health Minister, Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, Assam Top Cop, GP Singh, other Assam Police officials and State Ministers. New Covid Norms and restrictions are expected to be imposed from Tuesday in the state.
1367 new cases were registered on Monday in Assam out of 65,410 tests done. The positivity rate for 19th April stands at 2.09%
Meanwhile, Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma discussed current situation and need to scale up the preparedness in the state. He took to Twitter to state, “Along with health officials I held a VC with Principals & Superintendents of Medical Colleges to discuss current situation and need to scale up our preparedness. With our collective experience of handling the pandemic last year, we’re better equipped & ready”.
