Tezpur’s Sankalpa Asom observes Death Anniversary of ‘Bihu Samrat’ Khagen Mahanta

Tezpur, June 12 : City based Socio – Organisation, Sankalpa Asom offered rich tributes to the icon of Assamese folk music, Ganashilpi Khagen Mahanta on Saturday on occasion of his death anniversary. He is honored as “King of Bihu” and his compositions, melodious voice and contributions towards our folk culture will always reverberate in Assamese society for a long time.

Khagen Mahanta was a singer and composer of folk and traditional music of Assam. His Bihu songs, Borgeet and other folk songs remain popular in Assam. The artist, along with his wife Archana Mahanta and son Angaraag Mahanta who is known as Papon, represent one of the most influential families in Assamese music. He died on 12 June 2014.
