Assam Journalists in Delhi succumb to Covid-19, media fraternity mourns the loss

Delhi-based senior Assamese journalist, Kalyan Baruah passed away due to Covid-19 related complications on May 1. Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal took to Twitter to convey his remorse over the demise of the senior journalist. He also wrote in his tweet that the death of Kalyan Barooah is an irreparable loss to the field of media.

Kalyan Barooah was the special correspondent of The Assam Tribune in New Delhi. He was admitted to the hospital along with his wife Nilakshi Bhattacharya after both had tested COVID-19 positive.

Nilakshi, who was a part of the Times of India group, passed away on Friday. And after battling with the virus for a long time, Kalyan Barooah also lost his life.

Dr Himanta Biswa Samra also took to Twitter to express his sorrow at the demise of the senior journalist. He wrote, “I am saddened to hear the news of demise of Kalyan Barooah, the New Delhi correspondent of ‘The Assam Tribune’…”
