Mangaldoi, 24 March: A devastating bus accident reportedly occurred on National Highway 15 near the Kharupetia Army Camp, approximately 3 kilometers away from the Mangaldoi Dhula Police Station. The bus, bearing registration number AS 20 2289, was traveling from Tezpur to Guwahati. It had departed Tezpur at 5 AM and, as per sources, the accident took place around 7:40 AM.
The bus was reportedly carrying passengers primarily from Tezpur and Dhekiajuli. The incident has tragically claimed two lives, identified as Narayan Bora (40 years old) from Da Parbatia, Tezpur, and Pradip Dey (43 years old) from Garwanpatty, Tezpur. Additionally, more than 20 individuals sustained injuries. Among the injured, four critically hurt passengers have been transferred to Guwahati for advanced medical care, while others are undergoing treatment at the Mangaldoi Civil Hospital.
The accident has left the community in shock and mourning, highlighting the urgent need for enhanced road safety measures on this busy highway. Further investigations are reportedly underway to determine the cause of the accident.
