
Tezpur University (TU) organized a solemn condolence meeting to pay tribute to the late Prof. Mihir Kanti Chaudhuri, a distinguished academician and former Vice Chancellor of Tezpur University, who passed away on December 13, 2024, in Guwahati. Prof. Chaudhuri assumed the office of Vice Chancellor of Tezpur University on May 21, 2007, and completed two full terms. He demitted office on May 20, 2017.

Born on July 07, 1947, Prof Chaudhuri had an illustrious career both as an outstanding achiever in the field of research and academics as well as a dynamic academic administrator. A prestigious Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar awardee, he had served as Education Adviser to the Government of Assam, Dean, Research & Development at IIT, Guwahati. He was also the Head, Department of Chemistry at IIT Guwahati and in North-Eastern Hill University, Shillong. He was also associated with a number of Professional/National Level Bodies and Societies.

“Tezpur University was his family, and he played a pivotal role in shaping the University into a renowned institution of learning. His passion for research, his commitment to academic excellence, and his dedication to mentoring young minds have inspired generations of students and researchers”, Prof Shambhu Nath Singh, Vice Chancellor, TU remarked while paying tribute to the departed soul.
The condolence meeting was attended by faculty members, staff and students of the University.
