Sonitpur, August 29, 2025 (Friday): Sonitpur District is all set to observe National Sports Day 2025 with great enthusiasm. The celebration will feature a number of activities designed to encourage fitness, active participation, and the discovery of young sporting talent.
The programmes started on 29th August 2025, when the Office of the District Sports Officer, Sonitpur, organized a Walkathon, Yoga Session, and Chess Competition. Schools and colleges across the district also celebrated the day by holding sports competitions, debates, quizzes, and by administering the Fit India Pledge during their morning assemblies.
As part of the second day’s events, on 30th August 2025, a special programme called “District Dialogue on Sports, Health and Youth” will be organized. It will take place from 11:00 AM onwards at Tezpur Govt. Girls’ HS & MP School, aiming to create awareness about the importance of health and sports among the youth.
The celebrations will continue on 31st August 2025, with a Cycle Rally starting at 6:30 AM from Ananda Ch. Agarwal Park, Tezpur.
A highlight of this year’s Sports Day is the Talent Identification Initiative launched by the District Sports Officer’s office. Using scientific and standardized tools, data will be collected from different venues across the district to spot promising talent, especially in the 11–14 years age group. The aim is to guide these youngsters towards higher levels of sports training and compare their performance with national standards.
