Protest in Tezpur condemns Bangladesh Government over Lynching of Hindu Minority Worker Dipu Chandra Das

Tezpur, December 22, 2025 (Monday): A protest was held in Tezpur today condemning the Bangladesh government over the killing of a Hindu man and alleging continued atrocities against religious minorities, particularly Hindus, in the neighbouring country.

The protest, held at the premises of Borguri Durga Mandir, was organised by the Bengali Parishad Assam, East Tezpur Regional Committee. During the demonstration, an effigy of Muhammad Yunus, Chief Adviser of Bangladesh’s interim government, was burnt at Borguri as a mark of protest. Under the leadership of President Biplab Kumar Das, demonstrators took out a massive rally at 4 pm, demanding an immediate end to atrocities committed against minority Hindus in Bangladesh. Protesters raised slogans demanding justice for Dipu Chandra Das and criticised what they described as the failure of the Bangladeshi authorities to protect minority communities.

The protest followed the lynching of Dipu Chandra Das, a Hindu minority citizen, in Bangladesh’s Mymensingh district on the night of 18 December 2025. The garment factory worker from the Square Masterbari area of Bhaluka was beaten to death by a mob. After the assault, his body was tied to a tree, set on fire, and left in public view. A video of the incident later surfaced on social media, sparking widespread outrage.

Dipu’s death represents the latest in a series of attacks on religious minorities in Bangladesh. Hindu communities have reported ongoing harassment and violence, a situation that has worsened amid recent political instability in the country.
