Sonitpur : Part ofJia Bharali river getting murky; dead fishes found floating

A report has been received from the Range Forest Officer, Nameri Wildlife Range, Potasali Nameri Tiger Reserve and National Park through that the river water of Jia Bhoroli (part which flows through the Nameri National Park) is getting murky.

It has been reported that huge quantities of dead and live fishes are floating in Kameng river (Arunachal Pradesh part of Jiabhoroli River) due to which people are rushing into the river for catching the fishes wherein an Advisory has already been forwarded by the Deputy Commissioner, Itanagar, Arunachal Pradesh requesting the people not to venture into the river and not sell and consume death fishes from the market as the reason behind the death of the fishes is yet to be ascertained.

There is every possibility that the turbidity upstream will affect the quality of the water downstream and the aquatic life therein, therefore venturing in to the Jia Bhoroli river at this time may cause risk to human life and other aquatic life or other wildlife of river Jiabhoroli (part which flows through Nameri National Park).

Therefore, the authorities have advised –

  1. Not to venture into the river for catching the fishes floating down stream (death fishes).
  2. Not to sell fishes in the market till further order.
  3. Not to consume fish/river water.
