Meeting held in Tezpur to address issues of GST Notices & Orders

The Accountants & GST Practitioners Association recently organized a critical meeting on 21st May at the Bengali Theatre Hall, Tezpur to address the growing concerns among business owners and proprietors about the unusual fines and penalties being imposed under the Goods and Services Tax (GST) regime. The event saw a robust discussion on the frequent changes in GST laws and the subsequent challenges faced by both businesses and officials. The meeting was attended by small and medium-sized business owners, Chamber of Commerce members, and various accountants and GST practitioners from Tezpur, Balipara, and Rangapara. The president of the organization, Mr. Shyamal Saha, took the lead during this meeting.

The primary focus of the meeting was to shed light on the fines and penalties that many business owners perceive as unjust and abrupt, along with the increasing worries regarding the recent notices and orders from the SGST department. Participants condemned these notices and orders as predominantly unreasonable and arbitrary.

In response, the meeting concluded that all business organizations and GST-related entities would begin a protest against these practices. It was also determined that a formal statement would be released in the coming days, urging the SGST office to stop imposing unfair taxes on GST-registered individuals. Additionally, another meeting may be convened shortly to plan further action steps for advocating with GST authorities on behalf of the local business community.
