DRDO leadership visits DRL Tezpur: emphasizes innovation and collaboration

On 23rd May, Dr. Samir V. Kamat, Secretary of the Department of Defence R&D and Chairman of DRDO, along with Dr. U. K. Singh, Director General (Life Sciences), visited the Defence Research Laboratory (DRL) in Tezpur. The visit highlighted the crucial role of DRL Tezpur in advancing defence research and development. Dr. D. V. Kamboj, Director of DRL, welcomed the distinguished guests and provided a comprehensive overview of the laboratory’s pivotal role and notable achievements. He highlighted DRL Tezpur’s expertise in areas such as vector control, water quality enhancement, pharmaceutical technology, and bio-waste management. Dr. Kamboj also presented DRL’s new research and development initiatives, which concentrate on providing support for soldiers in jungle warfare, reducing detectable signatures, and forecasting and mitigating entomological biothreats.

In his address to the assembly, Dr. U. K. Singh highlighted the significance of collaborating with academic institutions and industry to advance translational research that benefits the Armed Forces. He emphasized that the issues encountered by soldiers in the northeastern forward areas should be tackled through combined efforts by DRDO and its partners. Dr. Samir V. Kamat praised the scientists, officers, and staff of DRL for their significant contributions and encouraged them to reaffirm their dedication to national service. He emphasized the need for continuous reformation and transformation within the R&D organization to enhance performance and deliver cutting-edge technologies that strengthen the nation’s defence capabilities and self-reliance.

Throughout the visit, Dr. Kamat facilitated the transfer of technology through licensing agreements for Anti-microbial bed sheets and Anti-bed bug bed sheets to three industries, demonstrating DRL’s dedication to implementing its research in practical settings. Additionally, he unveiled the Annual Report of DRL, showcasing the laboratory’s advancements and accomplishments over the preceding year. The presence of DRDO’s senior leadership at DRL Tezpur signifies a significant stride in underlining the value of innovation, collaboration, and commitment in advancing the nation’s defence technology sector.
