Heart-wrenching accident at Khanapara in Guwahati calls for Urgent Road Safety Measures
Recently, CCTV footage was released showing a chilling accident that claimed two lives in Khanapara, Guwahati, on Friday, November 1, 2024. The accident occurred around 3:40 a.m. on Diwali night when a white Mahindra Scorpio, bearing registration number AS-01 EG-0820, attempted a U-turn near the foot overbridge. At the same time, a second black Mahindra Scorpio, bearing registration number AS-01 GB-6269 and heading towards Ganeshguri, collided with it.
This tragic incident has led to a flurry of arguments on social media, with people debating whether the white SUV should have avoided the U-turn or if the black SUV should have been more cautious at the intersection.
At first glance, it appears that both parties share the blame. The white SUV’s maneuver and lack of awareness, combined with the black SUV’s failure to reduce speed, contributed to the fatal collision. The differing perspectives and opinions on social media highlight the complexity of the situation, with some discussions becoming quite heated.
It is advised that the public refrain from acting as judge, jury, and executioner, and allow officials to conduct a thorough investigation and deliver a verdict. This incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of caution at intersections, especially at night, when the absence of traffic can create a false sense of security.
To prevent such tragedies, drivers and riders must always be vigilant and adhere to traffic rules. When approaching intersections, it is crucial to look for potential hazards such as pedestrians, fast-moving vehicles, or right turns on red. If any hazards are detected, slow down and cover the brake pedal with your foot. Always use turn signals and position your vehicle to clearly indicate your intentions.
By following these safety measures, we can reduce the risk of accidents and ensure safer roads for everyone. Let this tragic event be a lesson for all to exercise caution and responsibility while driving.
