Tezpur, February 9, 2025: In a community initiative, Marwari Yuva Manch Tezpur Jagruti Branch and Akhil Bharatiya Marwari Mahila Sammelan Tezpur, in collaboration with Gauhati Lions Eye Hospital, organized a successful free eye check-up and cataract surgery camp at Hindustani Central School, Tezpur University Road.
The camp was inaugurated with a ceremonial lamp lighting by Ritika Patni, Camp Chairperson from MYM Tezpur Jagruti, and Jagdamba Dhanuka from ABMMS Tezpur, accompanied by dignitaries including Nisha Joshi, Madhu Jain, Anita Agarwal, Usha Kiran Tibrewal, and Sushila Dugar. This symbolic gesture set the tone for a day dedicated to community service and vision restoration.
A special felicitation was given to the dedicated medical team from Gauhati Lions Eye Hospital, including optometrists Gautam Sharma, Tapas Biswas, and technician Bhavesh Sharma, whose expertise and commitment made the event possible. The event’s smooth coordination was credited to the efforts of Ritika Patni, Sarita Tayal, Sheetal Saraf, Parul Agarwal, Madhu Jain, Jagdamba Dhanuka, Asha Gupta, and Anita Agarwal. Additionally, Rajeev Jain, President of Lions Club of Tezpur Greater, and Premji Jhanwar were honored for their invaluable support.
A total of 101 individuals received free eye check-ups during the camp, with 35 diagnosed with cataracts. These individuals will undergo free cataract surgeries at Gauhati Lions Eye Hospital on February 17, followed by post-operative care and their return to Tezpur on February 19. The emotional highlight of the event was the gratitude expressed by the beneficiaries, whose restored vision brought tears of joy and hope for a brighter future.
The organizers have pledged to continue such social service initiatives, aiming to make a meaningful impact on the community. This camp not only provided crucial medical assistance but also fostered a spirit of unity and care among the residents of Tezpur.
