Dangerous condition of NH 15 raises Safety concerns in Tezpur

Tezpur, August 21, 2025 (Thursday): The stretch of National Highway 15 between Mission Chariali, Tezpur and the Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi Girls’ College (LGB Girls’ College) has turned into a danger zone for commuters. Large potholes on this road have already caused several accidents, especially affecting two-wheelers and three-wheelers.

These potholes have developed due to heavy rainfall, the ongoing construction work of the Mission Chariali overbridge, and continuous movement of heavy vehicles. Despite the construction activity, this road remains the main route used daily by many people, including many students of LGB Girls’ College, making the situation more worrying.

During the rainy season, the potholes get filled with water, making it almost impossible for drivers and riders to judge their depth. As a result, many two-wheeler and three-wheeler riders often lose control of their vehicles, sometimes resulting in serious mishaps. Even school vans and private vehicles have reportedly been affected, leading to injuries.

Highlighting this matter, the non-governmental organization Gramya Prahori submitted an official letter to the District Commissioner of Sonitpur on August 21, 2025. In the letter, they appealed for urgent action to repair the road before the upcoming Durga Puja and other festive occasions, warning that the chances of major accidents during this busy period cannot be ignored.

The NGO hopes that under the District Commissioner’s leadership, the concerned departments will take immediate action to fix this public safety issue. With the festival season approaching, time is running out to make this road safe for everyone.
