Tezpur, Sep 17 : North Eastern Regional Institute of Water & Land Management, Tezpur (NERIWALM) on Friday welcomed Hon’ble Union minister of Ministry of Jal Shakti, Department of Water Resources, RD & GR Shri Gajendra Singh Shekhawat at Tezpur.
On Thursday, he arrived in Assam for series of meetings which included the 3rd Governing meeting of North Eastern Regional Institute of Water & Land Management, Tezpur (NERIWALM), conference of PHED Ministers of North Eastern States for speedy implementation of Jal Jeevan Mission in North East. He also reviewed the PMKSY projects and Brahmaputra and Barak Valley – Flood control and Erosion related issues.
Today at Tezpur’s NERIWALM campus he planted saplings and interacted with the Director and faculties of the institute and discussed on undertaking research and provide technical services to the line departments in order to improve agricultural production and socio-economic status of the people in North east. The union Minister was joined by Minister of Department of Housing & Urban Affairs and Irrigation, Govt of Assam; Ashok Singhal.
NERIWALM, Tezpur provides technical back-up services by undertaking projects, experiments and offers consultancy services etc. in various aspects of water resource management, efficient water use in irrigation management, agricultural and horticultural development, soil and water conservation and sociological parameters etc. NERIWALM also envisages fulfilling the goals of National Water Mission through its various activities.
