It is though disheartening to accept that North East has the highest cancer count, as much as three times of the nation’s total cancer incidence. However, constant efforts and approaches are on trial by concerned authorities to deal with such burden.
In a recent development, the Assam Cancer Care Foundation (Tata Trusts and Govt. of Assam initiative) in association with the Indian Society of Medical and Pediatric Oncology (ISMPO) is all set to organise the first North East Oncology Summit, NEOS 2023 in Tezpur on 03rd & 04th February. The summit will be hosted by Tezpur Cancer Care Centre this year in Tezpur Convention Centre, a state-of-the-art conference center at Batamari.
The Organising Secretary of the event, Dr. Venkata Pradeep Babu, Senior Consultant Medical Oncologist told Tezpur Buzz that Several eminent Oncologists from all over India from premier institutes like Tata Memorial Hospital, Mumbai, AIIMS Delhi, CMC Vellore and faculty from United States is going to join the oncologists in Assam in this conference to discuss on the ways to deal with the most common cancers in Assam and exchange the ideas and good practices.
He also mentioned that there will be sessions by patients and their families regarding their experience and journey through cancer treatment and the role of media and NGOs in creating awareness on early detection and prevention.
