September 8: Focus on Education and Accountability
District Commissioner (DC) Shri Ananda Kumar Das carried out a sudden inspection to strengthen accountability in the fields of health and education. On 8th September, he visited KERR Memorial L.P. School in Tezpur, where he reviewed infrastructure, checked attendance, and observed student activities.
September 10: Preparations for Durga Puja Immersion
With Durga Puja around the corner, the DC, along with ADC (Magistracy) Twahir Alam, Circle Officer Madhurjya Buragohain, and officials from PWD and other departments, inspected the Tezpur immersion site to ensure preparations for a safe and incident-free Durga Puja Visarjan, prioritizing public safety and streamlining arrangements for the festival.
September 10: Awareness on World Suicide Prevention Day
On the occasion of World Suicide Prevention Day, Tezpur Medical College & Hospital (TMCH) and the District Mental Health Program (DMHP) collaborated with the Departments of Psychiatry and Community Medicine to engage with students and community members. A DMHP officer addressed the gathering, emphasizing the importance of mental health and collective efforts toward prevention. Simultaneously, at LGBRIMH, Tezpur, awareness activities were conducted across various departments and wards. These initiatives encouraged open discussions on mental health and highlighted the day’s global message of suicide prevention.
September 11: Historic Hoisting of the 108-ft National Flag
Tezpur witnessed a historic moment on 11th September with the hoisting of a 108-feet-high National Flag at Solmara Cantonment. The event was led by Lt Gen Gambhir Singh, AVSM, YSM, GOC Gajraj Corps, in the presence of senior officials, state representatives, and hundreds of students, NCC cadets, military families, and local residents. The occasion, supported by Maj Gen Aseem Kohli (Retd) and the Flag Foundation of India, was filled with patriotic fervor. Cadets of Tezpur College 5 Assam Bn NCC performed patriotic songs, making the ceremony an inspiring and memorable event for all present.
September 12: Training on Water Safety by DRDO
On 12th September, the Defence Research Laboratory (DRL-DRDO) Tezpur conducted training on Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) of the Iron Removal Unit (IRU) and demonstrated the use of a Water Testing Kit (WTK) at Tenga Valley. Army personnel from multiple units participated in the hands-on training to enhance safe water management in remote regions of Northeast India. This initiative aimed at improving access to clean and safe drinking water, a vital necessity in challenging terrains.
