Sonitpur Publishes Final Electoral Roll 2026: Nearly 10 Lakh Voters Registered Across Five Constituencies
The Office of the District Commissioner and District Election Officer, Sonitpur, has officially published the Final Electoral Roll 2026, covering all five Assembly constituencies in the district. Released on 10 February 2026 and taking 1 January 2026 as the qualifying date, the roll records a total of 9,59,637 registered voters, marking the conclusion of a comprehensive Special Summary Revision process.
A District-Wide Overhaul of the Voter Registry
Across Sonitpur’s five constituencies (Dhekiajuli, Barchala, Tezpur, Rangapara, and Naduar), a combined total of 22,425 new voters have been added to the rolls, while 46,714 names have been removed. The district now has 4,75,309 male voters, 4,84,308 female voters, and 20 third-gender voters, bringing the overall total to 9,59,637.
The formal publication ceremony took place in the conference hall of the District Commissioner’s Office. It was presided over by District Commissioner and District Election Officer Shri Ananda Kumar Das, ACS and attended by Electoral Registration Officers, Additional District Commissioners, senior police officials, electoral officers, political party representatives, and members of the press.
Constituency-by-Constituency Breakdown
The largest constituency by voter count is Dhekiajuli (65), which has registered 5,849 new voters but also seen 10,954 deletions, leaving a total electorate of 2,23,906. Barchala (66) has 1,89,645 voters after adding 3,920 and removing 10,241 names. Tezpur (67), notably, is the only constituency where female voters outnumber male voters: 90,667 women compared with 84,893 men, giving it a total of 1,75,563. Rangapara (68) stands at 1,69,029 voters following the addition of 5,768 and deletion of 9,086 names. Naduar (69) rounds off the list with 2,01,494 voters, having gained 4,082 new registrations while 7,732 were removed.

Young Voters Surge; Elderly Voters Removed
One of the most striking outcomes of this revision is the surge in youth participation. House-to-house verification carried out by Booth Level Officers (BLOs) resulted in a 145 per cent increase in the inclusion of first-time voters aged between 18 and 19. The initiative is widely seen as a reflection of the Election Commission’s broader drive to enfranchise young citizens.
Conversely, 27 per cent of voters aged 85 and above have had their names removed from the electoral roll, following field-level confirmation that they had either passed away or relocated from their registered addresses. Officials stated that the deletions were carried out strictly in accordance with verification protocols.
How Voters Can Check Their Names
Voters may verify their registration on the Chief Electoral Officer of Assam’s website at ceoassam.nic.in, the Sonitpur district portal at sonitpur.assam.gov.in, or the Election Commission of India’s national search service at electoralsearch.eci.gov.in using their EPIC number.
Appeals Process and Remedies for Affected Voters
Any voter aggrieved by a decision of the Electoral Registration Officer (ERO) may lodge a first appeal with the District Magistrate under Section 24(a) of the Representation of the People Act, 1950. A second appeal may subsequently be filed before the Chief Electoral Officer under Section 24(b) of the same Act, in accordance with Rule 27 of the Registration of Electors Rules, 1960.
Those whose names have been inadvertently omitted or deleted may apply for re-inclusion through Form-6, submitted to the concerned ERO either during an abbreviated revision period or through the continuous updating process.
