Sonitpur district is set to introduce local youth to the refined Olympic sport of fencing. In a bid to promote Olympic sports development at the grassroots level, the Office of the District Sports Officer, Sonitpur, has announced a 15-day Basic Coaching Camp in fencing, slated to commence later this week.
The camp, which will run from May 23 to June 6, 2025, aims to introduce aspiring sportspersons to the fundamentals of fencing under the guidance of experienced coaches. This initiative is part of the district’s ongoing efforts to provide structured training opportunities in Olympic disciplines.

Fencing, an Olympic sport that blends physical agility with mental sharpness and strategic thinking, is set to receive a boost in Sonitpur district. The initiative aims to identify and nurture young talent early, equipping aspiring athletes with essential skills that extend beyond the sport itself. With structured training and dedicated coaching, participants will gain a strong foundation, fostering both individual growth and potential future champions.
The coaching sessions will be held daily from 4:00 PM onwards at Hazarapar Stadium in Tezpur. All interested participants are requested to arrive at the venue by 3:45 PM on the opening day (May 23) for registration formalities.

Fencing, which has been part of the modern Olympic Games since their inception in 1896, features three different weapons – foil, épée, and sabre – each with its own rules and techniques. The camp is expected to cover basic techniques and rules across these disciplines.
This initiative comes at a time when there is growing interest in non-traditional sports across India, with several fencers from the country beginning to make their mark in international competitions.
The District Sports Office has emphasized that the camp is open to all interested participants regardless of prior experience in the sport. For further information or queries, interested individuals can contact the organizers at 9854009472 or 78696781452.
This coaching camp is organized by the Office of the District Sports Officer, Sonitpur.
