Tezpur, August 21, 2025 (Friday): The North Assam Chamber of Commerce & Industry (NACCI), Tezpur, has submitted a formal appeal to the Divisional Railway Manager (DRM), Rangia, requesting urgent improvements at Tezpur railway station.
Although Tezpur station currently does not have direct passenger or goods train services, ticket booking is still available from 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM. NACCI has highlighted that the station lacks very basic amenities, such as clean drinking water and proper seating arrangements for passengers.

In their letter, NACCI has strongly urged the railway department to restore the two-shift ticket booking system. They stressed that Tezpur deserves better railway facilities as it is not only the district headquarters of Sonitpur but also houses key establishments like the Army’s 4 Corps Headquarters, the Eastern Air Command’s major fighter base, and several surrounding tea estates that serve a large population.
NACCI also mentioned reports that the Railways may consider appointing a private vendor to run the Passenger Reservation System (PRS) counter. In this regard, the chamber expressed readiness to support the move by creating awareness among its 550+ members and related business organizations, many of whom are already experienced in e-ticket booking.
Additionally, R.K. Bhati, Chairman of the Railway Committee, NACCI, also acknowledged and thanked the railway authorities for their prompt action on an earlier appeal, which resulted in the provision of toilet facilities at Tezpur station.
The chamber has requested the authorities to take prompt and positive steps toward resuming the two-shift ticket booking and improving passenger convenience at Tezpur station.
