Assam Cabinet Minister Nandita Gorlosa Explores Gupteshwar Temple and Singri Ruins
Nandita Gorlosa, Assam Cabinet Minister for Power, Sports & Youth Welfare, ITFC (Archaeology), and Co-operation, recently visited the Gupteshwar Temple (Singri Temple) on November 5, 2024. During her visit, she also explored the nearby Vishwakarma Temple, a protected site under the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI). The historical significance and architectural beauty of these temples left a lasting impression on the visitors.
In addition to the temple visits, the minister and her team explored the Singri ruins, which date back to the 11th-12th century CE. The site features remnants of an ancient temple, including intricately carved stones and sculptures depicting various mythological scenes.
Gupteshwar Temple is currently undergoing excavation under the aegis of the Directorate of Archaeology, Government of Assam. The excavation has uncovered intricate designs, including bases, necks, and Ashtabhuja-shaped stone temple planters, alongside significant findings such as brick structures, stone floors, and other artifacts, reflecting architectural styles from multiple historical periods. The excavation initiative, led by the Directorate of Archaeology under the guidance of Hon’ble Cabinet Minister and MLA of Dhekiajuli constituency, Shri Ashok Singhal, aims to unveil new insights into the temple’s historical significance.
These historical sites not only showcase Assam’s glorious past but also highlight the need for their preservation and protection. The visit by Minister Gorlosa was a step towards promoting awareness and appreciation for these cultural treasures, underscoring the importance of maintaining and protecting them for future generations.
