ABSU Tezpur Unit Launches Weeklong Cultural Workshop to Preserve Bodo Heritage

The All Bodo Students’ Union (ABSU) Tezpur Unit, with support from the Sonitpur District committee ABSU, has organized a weeklong cultural workshop aimed at promoting Bodo culture and instilling cultural awareness among the younger generations of the Bodo community. The event, which commenced on Wednesday, August 28, is being held at the Tezpur Sahitya Sabha Bhawan.

The workshop focuses on providing training in traditional Bodo musical instruments and dance forms. Participants will learn to play instruments such as kham, siphung, jotha, serja, and jabshring. Additionally, instruction will be given in two specific Bodo dance forms: bagrumba and bardwi sikhla.

The inaugural ceremony was presided over by Shambhu Boro, former vice president of Sonitpur district ABSU and senior reporter of The Assam Tribune. Mondeep Goyary, General Secretary of Tezpur Unit ABSU, and Meera Boro, Cultural Secretary, conducted the event. The august occasion was graced by several prominent ABSU figures, including Enosh Mochahary, General Secretary of Sonitpur District ABSU; Fwrmaigra Basumatary, Assistant General Secretary; Rupjyoti Boro and Bogaram Mochahary, both serving as Secretaries; Sanjwhulao Boro, Public Relations Secretary; and Adim Swrgiary, Deputy Speaker. Their presence underscored the importance of the event and the ABSU’s commitment to cultural preservation.

The training program will be led by chief resource person Bidyut Chahary from Central Harimu Afad, assisted by Ashik Boro. In their speeches, Shambhu Boro and Enosh Mochahary expressed high hopes for the program’s success and anticipated significant positive outcomes.
