Tezpur : New Parking regulations issued by Tezpur Municipal Board

Tezpur, May 20: In a major move aimed at easing traffic congestion and ensuring smoother vehicular movement within Tezpur town, the Office of the Tezpur Municipal Board has issued a new parking arrangement order covering several important roads and commercial zones under the municipal area.

The order, issued on 20 May 2026, has come into immediate effect and will remain applicable until further notice.

According to the notification, the new parking arrangements have been introduced in the interest of:

  • Smooth traffic movement
  • Public convenience
  • Pedestrian safety
  • Effective roadside parking management
  • Unobstructed movement of emergency vehicles

The arrangements mainly cover:

  • Darrang College–Porowa Road
  • Civil Chariali to Sadar Thana Road

Officials stated that the decision was taken considering the increasing vehicular congestion near:

  • Educational institutions
  • Markets
  • Religious places
  • Residential areas

A) Parking Arrangement: Darrang College–Poruwa Road

The following parking arrangements have been notified:

  • Darrang College Backside (from ATM Point to Rangmahal Vivah Bhawan)
    • Four-wheeler parking permitted on the eastern side.
  • Shanti Mention Vivah Bhawan to opposite of Mahabhairab Mandir
    • Four-wheeler parking permitted on the eastern side.
  • Durgabari to Madhyapara Bye-Lane-1
    • Two-wheeler parking permitted on the eastern side.
  • Madhyapara Bye-Lane-1 to Madhyapara Bye-Lane-2
    • Two-wheeler parking permitted on the eastern side.
  • Madhyapara Bye-Lane-2 to Madhyapara Bye-Lane-3
    • Two-wheeler parking permitted on the eastern side.
  • Madhyapara Bye-Lane-3 to Madhyapara Bye-Lane-4
    • Four-wheeler parking permitted on the eastern side.
  • In front of Mahabhairab Bazar
    • Two-wheeler and four-wheeler parking permitted on the eastern side.

B) Parking Arrangements From Civil Chariali to Sadar Thana Road

The following revised parking regulations have also been introduced:

  • Civil Chariali to KC Road (IndusInd Bank)
    • Two-wheeler parking permitted on the eastern side.
  • KC Road Chariali to Borgola Point
    • Four-wheeler parking permitted on the eastern side.
  • Borgola Point to Sadar Thana
    • Two-wheeler parking permitted on the eastern side.
  • Anowar Hall to Court Chariali
    • Four-wheeler parking permitted on the eastern side.
  • KC Road
    • Four-wheeler parking permitted on the southern side.
  • NC Road (Man Pasand Road)
    • Two-wheeler parking permitted on the northern side.
  • NC Ganguly Road
    • Four-wheeler parking permitted on the northern side.
  • SC Road (F India)
    • Four-wheeler parking permitted on the western side.
  • Vegie Food to Kamrupia Namghar
    • Two-wheeler parking permitted on the southern side.
  • Kamrupia Namghar Point to Manik Chand Jewellery
    • Two-wheeler parking permitted on the northern side.
  • Manik Chand Jewellery to Royal Regency
    • Four-wheeler parking permitted on the western side.
  • HB Road
    • Two-wheeler parking permitted on the northern side.
  • GD Road
    • Chota Hati/Thela parking permitted on the southern side.
  • GC Road
    • Chota Hati/Thela parking permitted on the eastern side.

Further, the following instruction shall be strictly observed as mentioned in the notification.

  • Vehicles must not be parked outside designated parking areas.
  • Proper yellow road markings and boundary markings will be provided for identification of parking zones.
  • Parking that obstructs traffic flow, pedestrians, shops, institutions, or residential access will be strictly prohibited.
  • Free movement of ambulances, fire services, and other emergency vehicles must be ensured at all times.
  • Enforcement personnel and lessees have been directed to regulate parking systematically and prevent unauthorized occupation of roadside spaces.
  • Hawkers and vendors have been prohibited from encroaching upon parking zones and carriageways.
  • Violators may face legal action under the Assam Municipal Act, 1956, along with applicable traffic rules and regulations.

The district administration has appealed to municipal officials, enforcement agencies, ward representatives, business establishments, and the general public to extend full cooperation for successful implementation of the new parking arrangements in the larger public interest.
