Tezpur, May 24 : The Department of Psychiatric Social Work, LGB Regional Institute of Mental Health, Tezpur organised an awareness programme on the occasion of ‘World Schizophrenia Day’ on Tuesday. The awareness programme was conducted with the caregivers in both male /female wards of adult psychiatry.
The following were the activities conducted in the awareness programme
- Introduction of the mental illness, Schizophrenia
Signs and Symptoms - The various biological, psychological , social factors associated with the illness.
- The various treatment plan which includes pharmacological /non-pharmacological services
- Psychiatric Rehabilitation
- Distribution of Pamphlets
The programme was coordinated by Ms Sarbani Borkotoky , MPhil Scholar along with other MPhil scholars in the gracious presence of Dr Sonia P Deuri , Prof .Head of Department, Dr Sobhana H, Associate Professor, Dr Arif Ali, Associate Professor, Dr Indrajeet Banerjee, Asst Professor, Dr M Elamurugu, Asst Professor , Psychiatric Social Workers .
Schizophrenia is a mental disorder characterized by continuous or relapsing episodes of psychosis. Major symptoms include hallucinations (typically hearing voices), delusions, paranoia, and disorganized thinking. Other symptoms include social withdrawal, decreased emotional expression, and apathy.Symptoms typically come on gradually, begin in young adulthood, and in many cases never resolve.
