Tezpur: L.G.B. Girls’ College celebrates International Women’s Day with Empowerment Talk and Skill Certification Programme

The Department of Political Science at Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi (L.G.B.) Girls’ College, Tezpur, marked International Women’s Day on 6 March with a thoughtful blend of advocacy and practical empowerment, bringing together students, alumni, and a distinguished guest speaker for an event that underscored the importance of women’s rights, education, and economic independence.

The chief guest for the occasion was Ms Anindita Gogoi, a celebrated community advocate and founder of Tottosan Community Library, widely recognised as Assam’s first dedicated children’s library, and also associated with the Street Library initiative. Addressing the gathering at the college premises, Ms Gogoi delivered an impassioned speech centred on the theme “Give to Gain: Empowering Women through Rights, Justice and Collective Action”, urging attendees to view empowerment not as a gift bestowed upon women, but as a collective responsibility rooted in justice and solidarity.

The event also served as a proud graduation moment for a group of students and alumni who had successfully completed a free make-up artistry certificate course, organised by the Department of Political Science in collaboration with Medhavi Skill Hub, Tezpur. The course, conducted on the college premises under the aegis of the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC), Government of India, was designed to equip the women of L.G.B. Girls’ College with a marketable, vocational skill alongside their academic pursuits. Participants were presented with free make-up kits and certificates in recognition of their achievement.
