Tezpur: Zubeen Garg’s 53rd Birthday celebrated with Cultural Tributes and Community Spirit

The 53rd birthday of legendary artist Zubeen Garg was celebrated with vibrant colours, elegance, and heartfelt admiration at the Mazgaon Community Hall in Tezpur on Tuesday, 18 November 2025. Organised by the Anubhuti Cultural Group, the event brought together artists, educationists, cultural figures, and enthusiastic residents to honour the iconic singer’s life and legacy.

The programme opened with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp by noted social activist and educationist Sjt. Bankim Barua, marking a solemn and traditional beginning. This was followed by an inspiring inaugural address from Sri Raktim Goswami, renowned musician and journalist, who reflected on Zubeen Garg’s cultural impact and the importance of sustaining artistic heritage.

Throughout the evening, distinguished personalities of Tezpur, including Prof. Ananda Barua, Dr. Manoj Jyoti Hazarika, Pallabi Saikia, Kavinder Jain, Parimal Baishya, and Nayani Bhuyan, among others, were felicitated with vibrant gamosas and symbolic Nahor saplings. The honours were conferred by Prof. Surajit Mahanta and Sri Dhrubajyoti Sarmah, President and Secretary of the event, in recognition of these individuals’ invaluable contributions to society and culture.

A major highlight of the celebration was the presentation of the “Protibhadhar Xilpi Award, 2025” to young artist Sri Amit Boro, donated by respected social worker and litterateur Ms. Nayani Bhuyan. The award underscored the event’s commitment to encouraging emerging talent.

Adding artistic brilliance to the celebrations, students and young performers from Tezpur University, Tezpur College, CTE Tezpur, Inspire Academy, Tezpur Collegiate HS School, First Steps School, Educo School of Art & Music, and others showcased soulful renditions of Zubeen Garg’s timeless songs. Their performances brought emotional depth and musical charm to the evening.

The programme was smoothly anchored by Sri Navajyoti Mudoi, Sri Troilokya Borah, and Sri Deepjyoti Borah, whose engaging presentation ensured seamless flow. Singer Uddeepana Goswami captivated audiences with a melodious tribute performance, adding to the event’s artistic richness.

The celebration concluded with a reflective valedictory speech by veteran cultural activist Sjt. Bankim Sarma, followed by a formal Vote of Thanks from Prof. Surajit Mahanta. The event came to a peaceful close, strengthened by the generous support and participation of the Mazgaon community.
