Tezpur University’s MCJ Dept. hosts workshop on ‘Raising Social Awareness among Students’

Tezpur, Sep 14 : With a vision of inculcating social consciousness and responsibility among the students of Tezpur University, the Mass Communication and Journalism Department hosted a workshop on ‘Raising Social Awareness among Students’, collaboration with The Buddha Institute, at the Council Hall of the University on 13/09/2022. Around 100 students and research scholars from various departments and centres of the University participated in the event.

The workshop began with the felicitation of the guest speakers and welcome address by Dr. Anjuman Borah, Assistant professor at MCJ Department and coordination of the workshop. Prof. Abhijit Borah, Professor and Head of the MCJ Department delivered the opening remarks. This was followed by Mr. Pradyut Bhattacharjee, Theme Lead, The Buddha Institute briefing the attendees about the objectives, design and outcomes of the workshop.

The workshop further continued with the screening of a 10-minute video about social issues in North East India and the work done by various development focused organizations in this regard. Mr. Ranjan Deb, Executive, The Buddha Institute, then delivered a session on ‘Social Sector and Awareness’. This was followed by a student panel discussion on the topic ‘Hopes & Aspirations of the Students around Social Sector Opportunities’ which was moderated by Mr. Pradyut Bhattacharjee.

Other highlights of the event included sessions by Mr. Manas Rabha, Program Director, ‘Seven Sisters Development Assistance’ (SeSTA), an NGO based in Assam, Mr. Luftur Rahman, Founder and Director of Operations for Xenon Farm Tech Private Limited, a start-up for new-age machinery in the field of agriculture, and Ms. Gopa Gangotri Shyam, Executive at SeSTA, sharing about their journey and rewarding experiences of working in the development sector.

The workshop came to a conclusion with a vote of thanks from the Event Co-coordinator.
