The Department of Mass Communication and Journalism at Tezpur University is set to conduct an intensive 12-day GIAN (Global Initiative on Academic Network) course focusing on Human Rights Reporting and Development Journalism. The program, scheduled from November 4 to November 16, 2024, is being sponsored by the Ministry of Education, Government of India, with registrations open until October 25, 2024.
The comprehensive course aims to bridge the gap between human rights advocacy and journalism by providing participants with in-depth knowledge of human rights issues, civil society initiatives, and the principles of development journalism. Participants will gain practical skills in journalistic writing across various media platforms, with a special emphasis on covering development-related topics and human rights violations in India and other countries.
The program’s objectives extend beyond traditional journalism training, encompassing crucial areas such as media tracking of human rights issues, analysis of reporting styles, and understanding development journalism from both Western and Asian perspectives. Additionally, the course will explore collaborative opportunities between human rights experts and journalists, examine NGOs’ roles in promoting human rights through participatory reporting, and emphasize ethical news reporting practices.
