
“The recent Operation Sindoor has illustrated the paramount importance of self-reliance, whether it is in bolstering our defense capabilities through indigenous production or in cultivating a robust ecosystem for Research and Development across all sectors,” this was stated by Prof. Shambhu Nath Singh, Vice Chancellor of Tezpur University. Prof. Singh was speaking at Tezpur University’s (TU) National Service Scheme (NSS) unit’s Annual Day observation held at the KBR auditorium of the University as the Chief Guest on Monday (May 12, 2025).
The NSS Annual Day provides a platform to reflect on the activities and achievements of the NSS units throughout the year. Volunteers, Programme Officers, and institutional heads come together to review their contributions to society.

Prof. Singh further emphasized the pivotal role of youth in nation-building, stating that the guiding principle for the youth should always be “nation first.”
Dr. Apurba Saha, the Programme Coordinator of NSS, TU, also attended the event, alongside dedicated Programme Officers of NSS, TU, including Dr. Sarmistha Das, Dr. Srinivasan G, and Dr. Biswajit Das. Chief Proctor, Prof. Papori Baruah, Dean, Students Welfare, Prof. Manabendra Mandal, and Registrar, Prof. KC Biswal were also present on the occasion.

Dr. Apurba Saha delivered the welcome address, highlighting the enduring relevance of the NSS in the current scenario. He also shed light on some of the notable achievements of the NSS unit over the past year, showcasing the impactful contributions of the volunteers.
A significant part of the event was the awarding of certificates to the dedicated NSS volunteers in recognition of their service and commitment. The volunteers also enriched the celebration with spirited performances of patriotic songs and dances, adding a cultural dimension to the Annual Day.
