In a recent, a special event was organised at the Head Post Office in Tezpur for release of special cover on Tezpur Litchi. The same was organised by Darrang Postal Division, Tezpur on 26th August as part of celebration of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav.
The special cover included the Geographical Indication (GI) Tag of Tezpur Litchi which is widely famous for its excellent quality, pleasant flavour, juicy pulp with attractive red colour.
The application for the GI tag of the Tezpur Litchi was filed back on August 28, 2013, by North Eastern Regional Agricultural Marketing Corporation Limited (NERAMAC) and the tag was granted on March 27, 2015 by the Geographical Indications Registry of India with a validity up to August 28, 2023, with a GI number of 438 under class 31.
Two more events were observed, one at Dibrugarh for Release of Special Cover on Assam Tea (orthodox) by Dibrugarh Postal Division, Dibrugarh and one at Tinisukia for Release of Special Cover on Kaji Nemu by Tinsukia Postal Division, Tinsukia.
