“Surokhit Axomor Babe Bator Nat” – A Disaster Preparedness Campaign Through Street Plays Continues

Thelamara, January 16, 2025: The District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), Sonitpur, in collaboration with Edupur Society, Tezpur, ceremoniously inaugurated the second phase of the street play series “Surokhit Axomor Babe Bator Nat” to promote disaster preparedness and resilience. The program was held near the Office of the Circle Officer, Thelamara Revenue Circle.

The event was graced by Smti. Himadri Bora, Circle Officer of Thelamara Revenue Circle, who led the inauguration ceremony. Prominent attendees included the Principal of Thelamara Higher Secondary School, the Head Teacher of Sankardev Bidyalaya and Robindra Vidyapeeth, Thelamara, and social worker Pabitra Nath, along with Field Officer (DM), LRA staff, Office staff, Gaon Pradhans, local residents, and students from Thelamara Higher Secondary School.

Chariduar, January 18, 2025: The initiative continued at Chariduar Revenue Circle Office with the 41st street play in the series. The inaugural performance at Nevil Higher Secondary School, Chariduar, saw notable dignitaries such as Dr. Khirod Kumar Hazarika, Circle Officer of Chariduar Revenue Circle, Rajesh Dutta, Principal of Nevil Higher Secondary School, Abhilasha Mahanta, Field Officer of Chariduar Revenue Circle, social workers Arun Bhuyan and Rajnish Saikia, and Amit Raj Konwar, Director of Edupur Group, in attendance.

The campaign aims to raise awareness about disaster preparedness, focusing on natural disasters like floods and lightning. A series of 50 street plays will be staged across various locations, including Balipara Centre, Gorhmara Centre, Bindukuri Centre, Phulaguri Centre, Borjuli Centre, Rangapara Tiniali, Lokhra Centre, 18 Mile Centre, and Khanamukh Centre. A mobile van equipped with loudspeakers will support the performances, and safety leaflets will be distributed to the public.

The street plays feature a talented group of artists from Tezpur, including coordinator Sunit Saikia, along with Pahi Dutta, Upashana Kalita, Vicky Ahmed, Rubu Moni Kalita, and Kabya Ranjan Bordoloi. Their engaging performances aim to drive home the importance of community participation in disaster management and contribute to building a safer, more prepared society.
