Special District Road Safety Committee Meeting on Road Safety Week and District Development Committee Meeting Held in Tezpur

A special meeting of the District Road Safety Committee (DRSC) followed by the District Development Committee (DDC) meeting for October 2024 was held on 8 October, 2024, under the chairmanship of District Commissioner Shri Ankur Bharali, ACS. The DRSC meeting was convened in alignment with the State Road Safety Week (7th-13th October 2024) and addressed crucial safety measures for the upcoming Durga Puja celebrations. The District Commissioner issued comprehensive directives including strict enforcement of speed limits, mandatory helmet and seat belt usage, enhanced evening surveillance, drunk driving checks, proper crowd management around Puja Pandal sites, and improved lighting arrangements.

Additional SP Madhurima Das outlined the traffic management strategy, announcing six designated parking areas operational from October 9th to 12th (3 PM to 1 AM) at Church Field, near Lithchu Pukhuri, School Inspector Office, Joymoti Pathar, Collegiate Field, and near DC Office Road. The health department was instructed to maintain high alert for medical emergencies during the festivities, while the Motor Vehicle Inspector was tasked with distributing Road Safety messages to Puja committees for display at Pandals. Special emphasis was placed on strict enforcement of liquor shop operating hours by the Excise department and the deployment of electronic traffic enforcement equipment.

Following the DRSC meeting, the District Commissioner conducted a comprehensive review of flagship government schemes across multiple departments during the DDC meeting, including Agriculture, PHE, Excise, Fishery, Cultural Affairs, Social Welfare, Health, Sports, Labour, Education and PWD (Building). The Commissioner focused on several priority areas, he specifically instructed the PWD (Building) officials to ensure the timely completion of the ongoing District Library construction. Additionally, the DC emphasized the need for adequate preparations for the upcoming paddy procurement, set to begin on 1st November, 2024, and stressed the importance of informing farmers about the procurement rates, creation of a comprehensive government land and building database, Khel Maharan 2.0 registration status, and progress monitoring of Model Anganwadi Centres and Amrit Sarovar projects.

The significant gathering was attended by key officials including Co-District Commissioners Raj Boruah (Naduar) and Dyotiba Bora (Dhekiajuli), Additional District Commissioners Garga Mohan Das, Kabita Kakati Konwar, and Twahir Alam, alongside various department heads and district administration officials. The District Commissioner concluded the meeting by emphasizing the importance of interdepartmental coordination and quick completion of pending projects, ensuring a comprehensive approach to both road safety initiatives and development activities in the district.
