Rare Species of Small Indian Civet Rescued in Balipara

Balipara, 8 March 2025: A rare species of Small Indian Civet (সৰু জহামাল) was rescued in Balipara, Sonitpur. This fascinating creature, known for its elusive nature, had been creating quite a stir in the village for several days. Residents of Baligaon, Balipara, particularly a local resident named Suren Das, had noticed the unusual visitor frequenting their homes. The Small Indian Civet had developed a notorious reputation for preying on chickens and ducks, causing distress among the villagers.
Determined to put an end to the civet’s mischievous adventures, Suren Das took the initiative to rescue the rare animal. On the morning of Saturday, 8 March 2025, after carefully capturing the civet, Suren handed it over to the Amaribari Forest Department.

The rescue of the Small Indian Civet has not only brought relief to the residents of Baligaon but has also highlighted the importance of coexistence and conservation of wildlife. This incident serves as a reminder of the delicate balance between human settlements and the natural world that surrounds them.
