Tezpur, June 5, 2025 (Thursday): The North Eastern Regional Institute of Water and Land Management (NERIWALM) observed World Environment Day 2025 with great enthusiasm, focusing on the theme “Ending Plastic Pollution Globally.”
The celebration commenced with a ceremonial pledge reinforcing the institute’s dedication to environmental sustainability and responsible consumption practices. The event was graced by the esteemed Director NERIWALM, employees, outsourced staff, and homeguards.

Following the pledge, participants conducted a plantation drive of minor fruit-bearing plants within the institute premises. This initiative aimed at enhancing the green cover of the campus while emphasizing the importance of biodiversity and sustainable agro-forestry practices.
The celebration concluded with a collective resolve to take forward the message of environmental conservation beyond the day and integrate it into everyday actions, demonstrating NERIWALM’s commitment to sustained environmental stewardship.

As an institution focused on water and land management in the northeastern region, NERIWALM’s emphasis on plastic pollution and biodiversity conservation aligns with its core mission of promoting sustainable resource management. The institute’s World Environment Day celebration serves as a model for how educational and research institutions can lead by example in environmental advocacy.
