NECAP 2025: A Community Movement to Raise Awareness on Cancer and Autism

The Viswapragna Foundation, in collaboration with Tezpur College, Darrang College, Indian Society of Medical and Paediatric Oncology (ISMPO) – the national body of medical oncologists in India and Indian Society of Colposcopy and Cervical Pathology (ISCCP), proudly announces the North-East Community Awareness Plenary (NECAP) 2025, set to take place on February 23, 2025, at Tezpur College, Tezpur. This unique initiative brings together the best minds in medical science, caregiving, and community leadership to address societal challenges related to Cancer and Autism. The event aims to foster awareness, dispel misconceptions, and create a stronger support network within the community.

Through its meticulously curated sessions, the event will address some of the most pressing issues in the fields of oncology and autism awareness. Leading oncologists, including Dr. Raghunadha Rao Digumarti, a B.C. Roy Awardee and former director of Tata Memorial Hospital, Dr. Sujit Kumar Mullapally from Apollo Chennai and many other prominent doctors will lead discussions on topics such as lifestyle and cancer, preventive vaccinations, and quality of life during palliative care. The sessions will provide an evidence-based understanding of cancer, breaking myths like the fear of biopsies spreading cancer and misconceptions around diet cures.

Parallel to this, the Autism Awareness track will focus on empowering caregivers and professionals to better support children with autism. Led by experts like Dr. Naresh Kalakota from NIMHANS and Dr. Priyadarshee Abhishek from LGBRIMH, the sessions will include discussions on identifying autism symptoms, managing comorbidities, and building effective communication strategies for children with autism. Parents of autistic children, such as Shri Monalisa Ray, will also share their lived experiences, offering invaluable perspectives on caregiving. Directors of Viswapragna Foundation, Dr. Venkata Pradeep Babu Koyyala and Dr. Pavani Medisetty, a leading anesthesiologist, are spearheading the oncology and autism tracks, respectively.

This one-day event will bring together not only doctors and caregivers but also community members from various professions such as teachers, lawyers, police officers, and vendors. NECAP 2025 seeks to bridge the gap between scientific expertise and public understanding, empowering individuals to become ambassadors of accurate information and advocates for a healthier, more inclusive society.
