Tezpur, August 28, 2025 (Thursday): In an important development for the Janata Dal (United) in Assam, two members of the family of late Dr. Purna Narayan Sinha, a former Member of Parliament, officially joined the party in Tezpur.
At a welcoming ceremony held at their residence, Manisha Bora Sinha, daughter-in-law of Dr. Sinha, and Ranjita Sinha Dutta, his daughter, became active members of Janata Dal. The event was attended by Paresh Nath, the Assam State President of Janata Dal. Both new members were greeted in a traditional way, where Paresh Nath presented them with an gamosa.
With this move, the Janata Dal, which is already in alliance with Nitish Kumar’s party, hopes to strengthen its presence in Assam. Observers believe the inclusion of Sinha’s family members could give the party deeper roots among people who respected the late leader and his work.
