Tezpur, December 12, 2025 (Friday): District Commissioner of Sonitpur, Shri Ananda Kumar Das, this Friday led two important initiatives that highlight the district administration’s dual focus on strengthening educational infrastructure and safeguarding religious heritage.

The day commenced with DC Shri Ananda Kumar Das, in his capacity as Chairman of the Mahabhairab Devalaya Management Committee, laying the foundation stone for the temple’s second guest house at Tezpur’s historic Sri Sri Mahabhairab Devalaya. The ceremony, conducted amid auspicious festivities and the chanting of mantras by temple priests, marks a significant step towards enhancing facilities for domestic and international religious tourists.
The Bhoomi Pujan ceremony marked the beginning of construction for an ambitious three‑storey structure, originally envisioned with a five‑storey foundation. The project will be executed with a total allocation of 70 lakh. Of this, 50 lakh has been sanctioned from the Chief Minister’s Untied Fund, while Rajya Sabha MP Birendra Prasad Baishya and Sonitpur Lok Sabha MP Ranjit Dutta have each contributed 10 lakh from their respective MP funds.

The foundation stone ceremony witnessed participation from several distinguished guests, including Tezpur Municipal Board Chairman Shri Ramen Tamuli, Executive Engineers from the Public Works Department (Roads and Buildings Divisions) Shri Nityananda Barkataki and Shri Bijoy Sharma respectively, and Mahabhairab Devalaya Management Committee members including Vice-Chairman Dr Manoj Kumar Hazarika, who also serves as Principal of Tezpur University.
Following the ceremony, DC inaugurated additional facilities within the temple complex. At a special event held in the temple office, he formally distributed two sets of uniforms to the temple staff. Subsequently, the Commissioner unveiled a pair of steel benches and desks in the Bhog Ghar, addressing the difficulties faced by elderly devotees who previously had to sit on the floor while partaking in prasad. The furniture was generously donated by Tezpur Times Hospital’s neurosurgeon Dr. Manash Bora and Dr. Gyan Sharma.

Later in the day, DC turned his attention to educational development, inaugurating a free educational coaching camp for Class 10 students at Chengelimara Higher Secondary School. The special coaching programme, designed to enhance academic performance and promote intellectual development, specifically targets students studying in the Bodo medium.

The inaugural event at Chengelimara H.S. School was attended by the Inspector of Schools for Sonitpur, the school’s principal, concerned officials, and enthusiastic students who will benefit from the initiative.
