Sonitpur DC Warns of Legal Action over Fraudulent Electoral Roll Applications

The District Commissioner of Sonitpur has issued a public notice cautioning residents against submitting applications as multiple voters during the ongoing Special Revision of Electoral Rolls.
The notice, dated January 24, 2026, highlights allegations that some individuals have filed such applications. It stresses that these actions break the law under Section 22 and Section 23 of the Representation of the People Act, 1950, as well as Rule 14 of the Registration of Electors Rules, 1960.
The administration also warns that false or misleading complaints harm the grievance redressal process and cause unnecessary confusion. If verified as true, strict measures will follow under Section 31 of the same Act and other relevant laws.
District officials emphasise their commitment to transparency and fairness, drawing on public information sources. They urge the public to file only genuine complaints and cooperate fully to uphold trust in electoral processes. The notice calls on all stakeholders to participate responsibly and support efficient handling of valid issues.
