“Nahor Jot, Zubeen Tot”: Tezpur unites to honour Zubeen Garg with Green Tribute

Tezpur, October 19, 2025 (Sunday): In a display of unity and cultural pride, forty-two youngsters from across Tezpur came together on October 19 to organize “Nahor Jot, Zubeen Tot”, a community-driven environmental and cultural initiative honouring our beloved Zubeen Garg. The event was organized by Moi Nohoi Ami (Zubeen Anuragi).

The program began at Bishnu Rabha Sandhi and concluded at the Tezpur Collegiate Field after a day-long series of Nahor tree plantations in 30 different Bihutoli (Bihu fields) across the town. The group, representing various neighbourhoods, aimed to blend ecological awareness with cultural preservation by linking the symbolic Nahor tree with the spirit of Bohag Bihu celebrations.

The initiative drew inspiration from Zubeen Garg’s recurring expression “Nahor Jot, Zubeen Tot”. Organizers explained that planting Nahor trees in these fields would let residents “feel his presence” during every Bihu and festive gathering for years to come.

The 42 participants who made this initiative possible included Pratim Saikia, Jyotishmoy Goswami, LakhyaJyoti Das, Hitesh Kalita, Dipankar Das, AmarJyoti Saikia, Manoj Saharia, Gunjan Borah, Apu Saikia, Abhinandan Bhuyan, Joydeep Saikia, Jintu Barman, Hemanta Saikia, Anupam Das, Nadim Hussain, Anirban Das, Abhinash Saikia, Chinmoy Kundu, Pranab Dey, Sumit Ahmed, Sashanka Kalita, Nishanta Das, Nabajit Thakuria, Bishal Ozah, Mustaque Quereshi, Himanka Phukan, Rupjyoti Borah, Hrishikesh Saikia, Ashim Jyoti Kalita, Arif Ahmed, Jibon Deka, Suruj Saikia, Jonak Neog, Paul Saikia, Bibhutti Das, Diganta Das, Monoj Tanti, Amlan Sagar Kashyap, Bijit Deka, Shiva Deka, Jyotiprasad Borah and Monjit Sharma.

The list of plantation sites spanned many of Tezpur’s cherished community spaces, including Polo Field, Christian Field Kolibari, Church Field, Chitraban Bakori, Joymati Pathar, Putapukhuripar, Mission Chariali, Milanpur, Besseria, Zubeen Point, Teleria, Luitpar, Railgate, Dekargaon, Patia Chuburi, Mazgaon, Bamparbatia, Parua, Rangapukhuripar, Ushanagar, Collegiate Field, Da Besseia, Gareki, Parabati Nagar, and others.

The “Nahor Jot, Zubeen Tot” initiative is expected to become an annual event, reinforcing not only green consciousness but also Tezpur’s rich cultural identity and the enduring influence of one of Assam’s most beloved artists.
