In preparation for the upcoming Panchayat Elections 2025, the Sonitpur District Administration held a crucial meeting with representatives from various political parties on April 5, 2025. The meeting, chaired by District Commissioner Shri Ankur Bharali, served as a platform to discuss election procedures and protocols.
Key district officials present at the meeting included Superintendent of Police Shri Barun Purakayastha, District Development Commissioner Shri Lakhinandan Saharia, Additional District Commissioner Twahir Alam, and Election Officer Ahmadullah Thakuria.
During the session, officials outlined the preliminary election schedule and explained the nomination process in detail. Political parties received guidance on required documentation, affidavit submission, and the allocation of election symbols. Shri Barun Purkayastha, Superintendent of Police, emphasized the importance of adhering to the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) throughout the electoral process.
The administration provided political parties with comprehensive information, including:
- A list of authorized electoral personnel
- Approved pricing for campaign materials, which will be used to monitor candidate expenditures
- A complete list of polling stations to facilitate election preparations
Officials announced that in accordance with government directives, the Panchayat Elections 2025 will be conducted at the Same-District Commissioner (CDC) level for same-districts.
According to the final electoral roll, Sonitpur district has a total of 799,640 registered voters:
- 398,906 male voters
- 400,716 female voters
- 18 voters from other categories
The district’s electoral structure consists of:
- 20 District Council constituencies
- 8 Regional Panchayat constituencies
- 88 Village Panchayats
- 880 wards
- 1,070 polling stations
The Sonitpur district administration reaffirmed its commitment to conducting free, fair, and transparent elections and requested cooperation from all political parties to ensure a smooth electoral process.
