The Assamese music and cultural fraternity is mourning the untimely demise of renowned flutist, musician, lyricist and songwriter Debozit Kalita, who passed away on August 28, 2026, on his 29th birthday.Born on August 28, 1997, Kalita was known for his mastery of the flute and his deep association with Assamese folk music.

He was a member of the renowned Assamese folk orchestra team Tezpuriya Thespian, through which he contributed to preserving and promoting the state’s rich folk and cultural musical traditions.Apart from his work as a flutist, Kalita also showcased his creativity as a lyricist and songwriter, expressing his passion for Assamese culture through music and words.
His sudden demise at the age of 29 has left fellow musicians, artists, friends and admirers deeply saddened. Members of the cultural fraternity have expressed condolences to his family and remembered his contribution to Assamese music.Though he has passed away far too soon, Debozit Kalita’s melodies, words and artistic contributions will continue to remain a part of Assam’s cultural memory.
