In a breakthrough against narcotics trafficking, police forces arrested two drug suppliers during a joint operation in Sootea, Biswanath. The operation, conducted by Sootea Police in collaboration with the Crime Branch of Biswanath’s Additional Superintendent of Police, resulted in the seizure of over 60 grams of illegal substances.
Acting on confidential intelligence, the police operation team intercepted Jamir Ali and Ikramul Hussain near the Potia Gaon tri-section in Sootea. The suspects were traveling in a tempo with registration number AS-12CC-1410 when they were apprehended.

During the search operation, authorities recovered 43 containers holding a total of 60.56 grams of narcotics. According to police sources, the suppliers were transporting these drugs with the intention of distributing them in Sootea.
This successful operation highlights the ongoing efforts by local law enforcement to combat drug trafficking in the region. The arrest of these two suppliers represents a significant step in disrupting the supply chain of illegal substances in the community.
The repeated drug busts in Sonitpur, Biswanath and surrounding areas signal a troubling pattern of narcotics trafficking taking root in our communities. This recent operation follows several similar interventions across Assam, highlighting the persistent challenge authorities face in combating drug distribution networks that continue to target vulnerable populations, particularly youth.
If you suspect someone is involved in drug supply or distribution, consider these steps:
- Report suspicious activities to the local police through confidential tip lines
- Note unusual patterns like frequent short visits to a location or unexplained financial changes
- Document relevant details such as vehicle numbers or timings of suspicious activities
- Never confront suspected drug suppliers directly as this could be dangerous
- Support community vigilance programs and awareness campaigns in schools and neighborhoods
- Seek help from addiction counseling services if you know someone affected by substance abuse
By remaining vigilant and working together with law enforcement, our communities can help stem the tide of this growing crisis before more lives are damaged by addiction.
