Massive Crackdown on Fake Gold: 5 more arrested by Sonitpur Police

Tezpur, May 23: Sonitpur Police has been actively conducting operations against the smuggling of fake gold and counterfeit currency in the district. Following recent successful arrests made by the Charduar Police Station and the Borghat Police, five more individuals involved in the illicit trade have been apprehended.

On May 19 and 20, the Chariduar and Borghat Police arrested a total of 11 individuals engaged in the trading of fake gold. Subsequently, the Tezpur Borghat Police arrested Mohammad Abdul Rahman from Barghat Jarani, who was found in possession of two pieces of fake gold biscuits and Rs 25,000 worth of counterfeit Indian Rs 5000 notes. Also the accused thieves were found with four mobile phones, five fake gold biscuits, and a rickshaw with the registration number AS12ER 1626, according to the Salonibari Police.

Following the directive of the Director General of Police (DGP), the Sonitpur Police have made significant progress in combating the trade of fake gold and counterfeit currency in the district. Within the last four days, a total of 16 individuals have been arrested.

Continuing the crackdown on fake gold smuggling, last night, the following persons were apprehended:
Mustak Hussain, 23 years old, son of the late Motiur Rahman, hailing from Akabasti Bengali village, under Chariduwar Police Station.
Md Abdul Rahman, 22 years old, son of Md Abdul Kalam, resident of Borghat Jaroni village, under Tezpur Police Station. He was found in possession of two pieces of fake gold biscuits and 25 counterfeit Indian currency notes.

The recent arrests mark an important turning point in their continuous efforts to protect the district’s citizens’ safety and security.
