Batabari, Sonitpur | April 11, 2026:
In a significant step towards strengthening rural water sustainability, a community water conservation project was formally inaugurated at Batabari Village under Ghoramari Gram Panchayat in Balipara Block on Saturday. The initiative has been implemented under the Dabur Jeevandhara programme of Dabur India Ltd. as part of its ongoing Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) efforts to promote environmental sustainability and community well-being.

The project was inaugurated by Sonitpur DC, Shri Ananda Kumar Das, who performed the ribbon-cutting ceremony in the presence of company officials, village representatives and community members.
Speaking on the occasion, Byas Anand, Head – Corporate Communication and CSR, reaffirmed the company’s commitment to environmental stewardship and community development, while Surendra Yadav, Unit HR Head of Dabur India Ltd., Tezpur Unit, highlighted the organisation’s continued support for welfare initiatives in its operational areas. The initiative was coordinated locally by Bhaskar Boro, CSR Executive of the Tezpur Unit.
The programme began with a welcome address by village and CSR representatives, followed by felicitation of the chief guest and dignitaries. The CSR project team presented an overview of the intervention, explaining that the initiative stemmed from field assessments conducted in March 2025 and consultations with the village Pond Development Committee in April 2025.
The intervention focused on scientific rejuvenation and deepening of an existing pond to improve water storage and year-round availability. As per project data, the pond’s storage capacity has increased from 16,316.8 cubic metres to 21,903.23 cubic metres. Based on average rainfall, the total storage potential is estimated at 29,569 kilolitres across an area of 7 bighas. The rejuvenated water body is expected to benefit 1,364 residents of Batabari and nearby villages by improving irrigation access, supporting livestock and fisheries, reducing dependence on distant water sources, and enhancing resilience to climate variability.
Addressing the gathering, the District Commissioner appreciated the initiative and emphasised the importance of collaborative efforts between the administration, corporate organisations and local communities in addressing water and climate challenges. During the ceremony, an agreement and commemorative mementos were presented to the District Commissioner and company representatives, symbolising the shared commitment to sustainable development.

Later in the day at 3:30 PM, another programme was organised at the Jivanti Boxing Centre, which houses the Vocational Training Centre (Cutting & Tailoring and Beautician Training) and Computer Literacy Centre.
