Tezpur University Hosts AI and Robotics Workshop Highlighting Opportunities, Innovation, and Entrepreneurship

Technology Enabling Centre (TEC), Tezpur University (TU), in collaboration with the Robotics Society, organized a three-day workshop cum investor and Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises (MSME) meet focused on Robotics, Artificial Intelligence (AI), and Entrepreneurship, starting on December 16, 2024.

The knowledge partners of the event were I-Hub Foundation for Cobotics, Technology Innovation Hub-IIT Delhi, and BITS BioCyTIH Foundation-Goa.

Dr. Ekta Singla, Secretary of the Robotics Society and Head of the Mechanical Engineering Department at IIT Ropar, Prof. Shyamanta M. Hazarika, Department of Mechanical Engineering, IIT Guwahati, Mr. Rajkumar More, Founder and Chairman, Torsa Machines Limited, and Prof. Mrinmoy Kumar Sarma, Dean, Research & Development, TU, were present on the occasion.

Delivering the inaugural address, Prof. Shambhu Nath Singh, Vice-Chancellor of the University, said that research and development in the field of Artificial Intelligence have reached such heights that AI and robotics are entering new realms of innovation. “Groundbreaking research has combined AI into Robotics, making Robots efficient for the real world,” Prof. Singh remarked.

Speaking on the occasion as the Chief Guest, Mr. Rajkumar More, an industry expert, stressed the importance of collaboration between academia and industry to better understand entrepreneurship. He underscored the importance of parental support and nurturing individual dreams. Mr. More asserted that AI won’t take away jobs but will create more opportunities.

Dr. Ekta Singla highlighted key areas where robotics is making significant contributions, such as manufacturing, healthcare, and banking. She also discussed the potential of government initiatives like “Make in India 2.0” to further boost the robotics sector. Citing examples like Tata and Adverb Technologies, which are investing in this sector, Dr. Singla urged all to give importance to doing more research work in this area.

In the next three days, researchers, industry leaders, entrepreneurs, and MSMEs will explore innovation and entrepreneurship in these cutting-edge fields. The workshop was managed by Dr. Nayan M. Kakoty, Coordinator, TEC, and faculty member, Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering, TU.
