Tezpur, May 31 : Lokopriya Gopinath Bordoloi Regional Institute of Mental Health (LGBRIMH), Tezpur on Monday celebrated the World No Tobacco Day 2021 with day long programmes both offline and virtually. This year the theme was ‘Commit to Quit’, which assumes significant importance in the present times of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The programme started with pledge taking ceremony, followed with the address of Dr Hemanta, in -charge, Department of Addiction Medicine. Prof R.K Chadda , Professor and Chief ,NDDTC, AIIMS , Delhi were the chief guests of the programme . Dr Vivek Benegal , Professor , Department of Psychiatry ,CAM, NIMHANS , Bangalore was the guest of honour. Dr S.K Deuri , Director, LGBRIMH was also present in the programme .
All the speakers highlighted the dangers of using tobacco, its consequence and impact on youth and adolescents, the need for national awareness campaigns and the importance of healthy living in the current pandemic times and also focussed on the ways to protect future generations from intoxicating tobacco .
