District-Level Viksit Bharat Youth Parliament organised at Tezpur College

The Viksit Bharat Youth Parliament 2026 was organised on March 2, 2026 (Monday) by Mera Yuva Bharat Kendra, Sonitpur, Assam, in collaboration with Naba Prabha Janakalyan Samiti at Tezpur College. The event served as a dynamic platform for young participants to engage in structured debate and gain first-hand experience of parliamentary proceedings.

The programme commenced with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp by the Chief Guest, Dr. Manoj Kumar Hazarika, Principal of Tezpur College. Dr. B. N. Medhi, retired Professor of Assam Agricultural University, and Dr. Abdul Mazid, retired Principal of LOKD College, attended as Guests of Honour, highlighting the importance of youth involvement in democratic processes.

More than 40 students from institutions across the district, including Tezpur College, Darrang College, Tezpur Law College and LGB Girls’ College, participated in the Youth Parliament. The participants deliberated on national issues in a format modelled on parliamentary debate, presenting reasoned arguments and policy perspectives. The initiative aimed to nurture leadership qualities, critical thinking and a sense of civic responsibility among young citizens.

The proceedings were assessed by a panel of judges comprising Dr. Mridula Sarmah, Dr. Trishna Rani Deka, Dr. Dharitri Sarma, Barnali Devi and Sri Mohim Acharjya. The welcome address was delivered by Nurul Amin, Secretary of Naba Prabha Janakalyan Samiti, while the vote of thanks was proposed by Dr. Sankar Chakraborty, President of the Samiti.

At the conclusion of the district-level event, Rajiv Varma, a BA 6th semester student of Tezpur College, secured first prize and has been selected to represent Sonitpur at the state-level Youth Parliament.

The programme concluded with appreciation for the enthusiastic participation of students and a renewed commitment to strengthening democratic awareness among the youth.
