Darrang College commemorates Commerce Day honouring Saud Bholanath Borooah’s Legacy

The Department of Commerce at Darrang College marked a significant milestone on May 30, 2025, as it celebrated Commerce Day in commemoration of the death anniversary of renowned academician Saud Bholanath Borooah. The event, organized in collaboration with the Darrang College Commerce Society (DCCS), brought together distinguished educators and students to honor the legacy of this great luminary.

The ceremony commenced with Dr. Sanjib Das, President of the Darrang College Commerce Society, delivering a warm welcome address to the assembled gathering. Dr. Dipanjan Chakraborty, Academic Vice-Principal (Commerce) of Darrang College, presided over the event, lending his distinguished presence to the proceedings.

Following traditional academic customs, the ceremony featured the ceremonial lighting of the lamp and floral tributes offered to honour Bholanath Borooah’s memory. Dr. Dilip Saikia, Head of the Department of Commerce at Darrang College, delivered the inaugural address, providing valuable insights into the life and significant contributions of Bholanath Borooah to the field of commerce education.

The event was graced by several esteemed guests from the academic community, including Prof. Harendra Kumar Sharma, former Head of the Department of Commerce and former Vice-Principal of Darrang College. Dr. Khirendra Haloi, currently Principal of Inspire Academy in Tezpur and former Head of the Department of Commerce at Darrang College, also attended the celebration. Prof. Chandra Prabha Devi, former Head of the Department of Commerce and former Academic Vice-Principal (Commerce) at Darrang College, added to the distinguished gathering.

In a special recognition ceremony, the Department of Commerce felicitated the three distinguished former faculty members – Prof. Harendra Kumar Sharma, Dr. Khirendra Haloi, and Prof. Chandra Prabha Devi – acknowledging their invaluable contributions to commerce education at the institution. Prof. Pom Sen Chakraborty conducted the felicitation proceedings.

The program concluded with Dr. Arpita Sharma Nath delivering the vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to all participants, guests, and organizers who made the Commerce Day celebration a memorable success.
